    About John Champney

    Staying healthy and keeping fit has always been a high priority in John’s life, whether it’s going out for a run, a bicycle ride, or playing ultimate Frisbee with friends. For years, John trained using a very sport-specific methodology.  Though he had good results, he never felt as if he was reaching full potential. When his business partner, Traci, introduced him to CrossFit, John knew he had hit on the missing link in his physical and mental well-being. Through coaching and personal athletic experience, he believes that every athlete’s needs are similar. CrossFit addresses the need for core strength and conditioning regardless of one’s ability level.

    About Traci Carico

    Physical fitness became a consistent part of Traci’s daily life as she prepared for Air Force basic training. During her adolescence, she participated in the individual sports of gymnastics, swimming, and track and field. Traci continuously encourages people to join race teams or groups, and supports others to take on their first 5K. She has a passion for motivating and encouraging people to do things they didn’t think were possible, and strongly believes in the power of teamwork and camaraderie. She found this camaraderie within CrossFit in 2011, along with a broad, general fitness program that will accommodate anyone’s current fitness level.

    About Stephen Waldrep

    Dedicated to promoting fitness in their own lives as well as in their community, this family found the philosophy behind CrossFit to make perfect sense. After pounding the pavement for years and training specifically for running events, Stephen and Tessa were immediately intrigued by and drawn to CrossFit’s focus on variation. CrossFit is saturated with constantly varied functional movements that are performed at appropriate levels of intensity.     About Ken Mooney

    Ken has played sports and been involved in athletics from an early age. Over the years he used running, cycling and countless gym memberships as a way to stay in shape but always became bored with the same routine of upper body days, lower body days, and endless hours on the treadmill. Ken was introduced to CrossFit in 2012 and was hooked after the very first workout. The competitive nature, encouraging atmosphere, and constantly varied workouts completely changed his outlook on fitness and health.     In his “younger” years Clint was active in many sports but concentrated on baseball. During college, Clint made a commitment to fitness. After several years of heavy strength training that led to injuries and surgeries, he decided to try CrossFit. That was almost two years ago, and he has not looked back.     About Tyna Waters

    • CrossFit Level 1 trainer
    • Wife and mother of 3
      Tyna grew up playing a variety of sports. In high school she competed at the state level in Track and Field. In 2012 she broke her femur wake-boarding, after a year of recovery and rehab she was back in the gym. CrossFit has helped her overcome huge obstacles in her life physically and emotionally. To her CrossFit is more than just a gym to get fit it's a family of supporters always there to help and encourage each other. She uses her experiences to inspire and motivate others to achieve their personal goals at CF.

      I've been a personal trainer for 11 years.  I've always enjoyed any type of physical activity, be it weights, running, kayaking, hiking and sports.  I love helping people realize their potential and achieving their goals. I had the opportunity to play college basketball and that's where my interest in physical fitness peaked.  The camaraderie was my favorite part, everyone working together to achieve a goal.  This is what pulled me towards CrossFit.  I had my first workout at CrossFit Shelby in 2015 and was instantly hooked.  The community, coaching and the workouts kept me coming back for more.
